When to Visit Tanzania

At Kilifind Adventure Safari, we believe Tanzania is a year-round destination, with each season offering its own unique experiences. Your choice of travel time depends on the wildlife you want to see and the kind of adventure you seek.

The Great Migration is one of Tanzania’s most spectacular attractions and occurs throughout the year across the Serengeti. For the iconic Mara River crossings, plan your visit between June and July when large herds of wildebeest and zebras face predators and cross the river—a thrilling sight, though it’s also the busiest period in the parks. January to February offers fewer visitors, greener landscapes after the short rains, and the chance to spot newborn wildebeest calves along with active predators. June to August brings cooler temperatures, ideal for those wanting to avoid the intense heat.

Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed any time of year, though it remains cold at the summit regardless of season. The coast and islands, such as Zanzibar, stay warm, offering a perfect contrast if you want to combine trekking with beach relaxation.

Tanzania’s green season, from November to March, is quieter and excellent for birdwatching, as thousands of migratory birds arrive. Wildlife is still abundant, and the landscapes are lush and vibrant. The only period we generally avoid is April to May, when heavy rains can make game drives challenging.

No matter when you visit, Kilifind Adventure Safari can tailor your itinerary to give you the best chance to experience Tanzania’s wildlife, landscapes, and adventures—whether it’s trekking Mount Kilimanjaro, exploring the Serengeti, or relaxing on Zanzibar’s beaches.
